With New ZBI 2.0™, Custom-Program Your Printer for Your Unique Needs

Zebra is offering ZBI 2.0 (Zebra BASIC Interpreter) programming language – with new and advanced features – as an option on our S4M™, ZM400™/ZM600™, 105SL™, and XiIIIPlus™ printers and PAX4™ print engines as part of the v53.16.2Z and v60.16.2Z firmware release.

ZBI 2.0 is a powerful and flexible tool for customizing printer functions for your specific application. Working alongside our Zebra Programming Language (ZPL II®), ZBI 2.0 programs make it possible to alter data sent to and from the printer. With ZBI 2.0 you can:

  • Write programs that give Zebra printers the ability to translate non-ZPL data streams into printable data. Use this powerful capability to:
    • Replace other brands of printers with new, reliable ZBI-2.0-programmed Zebra printers without the expense of having to reprogram legacy label formats.
    • Directly connect a scanner, scale or keyboard to the printer and create stand-alone printing solutions.
    • Operate the printer without the added expense of a PC.
  • Program the printer to create front-panel prompts to guide users through operations.
  • Program the printer to interact with PC-based databases.
    • Print labels based on data retrieved from a database.
    • Update a database with data captured from peripherals attached to the printer.

ZBI 2.0 is an affordable, purchasable option. Order printers from the factory with ZBI 2.0 already enabled, or enable ZBI by obtaining keys via our new ZBI store at www.zebrasoftware.com.

We're also offering the new ZBI-Developer™ – a free programming utility that makes it easy to develop, test and distribute new ZBI programs. The utility includes the powerful "Virtual ZBI" feature – making it possible to create programs and test programs on the PC. Download it from www.zbi.zebra.com.

Hospitals: Which Patient Wristbands Make the Most Cents?

Are you a hospital debating between laser and thermal printing for your wristbands? Before you make a choice, be sure to read Zebra's new white paper, Calculating Total Cost of Ownership for Patient Identification Wristbands.

In the white paper, laser and thermal print technologies are compared in the areas of ease of use, print quality, durability, and upkeep costs – all of which leads to a TCO for each. The results might surprise you!
